The Getronics Workspace Alliance is recognized as the global sourcing alternative for global LAN & Desktop services and is getting traction. Proof of good acceptance by its customers of this new partner model is the number of international clients that renewed their contracts with Getronics or one of the GWA members. Since its launch nine months ago, the renewal order intake at the GWA members increased and the alliance won new business representing over 50,000 new workspaces in Europe, the Americas and Asia.

A vision on the workspace addressed from 5 difference points of views

Bit by bit, the world of work has changed. Although Information and Communications Technology has been absolutely central to this change, the scale of the shift is greater than the sum of its parts. We need to look further than the adrofessional roleoption and effect of individual technologies and think about cultural, economic and generational change in the world around us. Globalisation has had a massive effect on the way we design, manufacture and distribute goods.

The perimeter of the individual organization is no longer a hard divide. The extended enterprise softens the separation between an organization and its suppliers, partners, clients and even competitors. This is also thanks in part to the ease with which available technologies help us to work outside previous organizational structure: mobile computing, social networking and web-based delivery models all break the divide further.

In this new world, the nature of the information worker has changed too. Just a few years ago, we saw information workers as being those who worked at the smarter end of business Today, we see the characteristics of information working becoming an intrinsic part of a wider range of jobs and work-styles.

This growth in information work is clearly reflected in attitudes to homeworking and mobile working -both in terms of flexible contracts and of connectivity and access to information but work becomes something you do and not a place you go to. The New Way of Working affects the entire organization and requires concerted cooperation of Management, HR, Facilities, Finance and ICT.

Finance perspective

HR perspective

ICT perspective

Facility perspective

Business perspective

Read Forrester Research report on Getronics Workspace Alliance by Andrew Parker

On March 25, 2009, Getronics and six partner firms formally announced the Getronics Workspace Alliance. The group will collaborate to deliver managed desktop services and a range of associated capabilities for enterprise clients. Forrester got the lowdown on the new initiative from Jos Schoemaker, chief operating officer (COO) of Getronics, during a briefing at Getronics’ new Dutch headquarters (HQ). Alliance partners offer services in 10 European Union (EU) states, the US and Canada, Japan, China, Mexico, and a range of other countries in Latin America, the Asia/Pacific region, and the Middle East. Market consolidation — like HP’s acquisition of EDS — has recently diminished the competitive options for global delivery of enterprise desktop services. In light of this, sourcing execs should look at new initiatives like the Getronics Workspace Alliance as potentially interesting alternatives to the likes of IBM and HP/EDS for multicountry support of desktop needs. But be prepared to put more work in at the RFP stage and vendor governance to capture value from an alliance like this.

Alliance members will work together to provide international organisations with globally consistent IT support, with a specific focus on workspace outsourcing. The Alliance members share common processes, methods and tools. This converts into direct benefit for any international organisation, delivering consistency of service with a strong local presence, robust international governance and shared service innovation.

The Alliance focuses on improvement of its client’s business results by enabling the personal performance of their employees. By engaging with any member of the Alliance, international organisations will plug into an extended service network. The individual Alliance members provide clients with a single point of business contact for simplified management of international service contracts: all Alliance members work together to anticipate service requirement and to plan and manage resources accordingly. For the client, this results in simplified contract management, effective service evolution and responsive scaling to requirement.

The Getronics Workspace Alliance will also drive business growth across its membership through shared marketing, business development and sales activity. The Alliance allows members to offer their clients an assured international presence without the expense of maintaining multiple subsidiary operations around the globe. This in turn will allow members to remain competitive in their bidding.

The aggregate service profile of the founding members is notable: between them they are responsible for some 5.7 million client IT assets worldwide.

The Getronics Workspace Alliance has grown out of the international service partner network originally developed by Getronics, and will retain the tools and governance methods which made it a success. These include the use of dedicated Global Program Management Offices as a single point of contact; and a standardised global service delivery model.

About Getronics
With worldwide revenue of €1.9 billion and about 16,000 employees, Getronics is a leading ICT service-provider in the world and the largest ICT service-provider in the Benelux.
